Bosch East Africa “Gathers Steam”

Bosch East Africa, under the leadership of MD Gary Barlow is rapidly “gathering steam” in more ways than one! With a “first” Kenyan Biofuel to Energy Project entering the design phase and the Regional office’s human resource and client base expanding rapidly to meet workload demands, Bosch Holdings’ strategic decision to open offices in Kenya appears to be yielding fruit, as East Africa is fast becoming a leading African region and a strategic hub for continental growth. Gary, who has more than 15 years of Contracting and Consulting Engineering experience in Kenya, believes future prospects are excellent, founded on the company’s ability to provide innovative multidisciplinary engineering, construction and operations solutions to Clients, utilising largely local resources.

Bosch East Africa’s current projects cover multiple sectors including:

  • Property Development (full Multidisciplinary Engineering Services)
  • Renewable Energy
  • Water and Waste Water
  • Sugar and Agriculture

Potential exists to expand Bosch East Africa’s services into other specialised sectors including:

  • Utility Management (including Operations, Maintenance and Refurbishment)
  • Roads
  • Industrial/Manufacturing

Bosch Holdings Business Development Director, Sid Turner, notes that “the establishment and growth of Bosch East Africa is a pleasing further step in Bosch Holdings global growth strategy. The company will primarily focus on the East African region, but will act as a spring board to offer the full range of Bosch Holdings services to selected markets in Sub-Saharan and North Africa”.

Key current projects include:

  • Teita Estates Biomass Power Station
  • African Spirit Ltd Blending and Bottling Plant
  • The HUB Karen Shopping Mall – Client MEP Representative
  • Coast Water Services Board Mombasa Waste Water Masterplan as a sub consultant to MIB Patel
  • Karen Waterfront – MEP Services
  • Mumiaus Sugar – Canefield and Factory audit in association with KPMG
  • Numerous MEP services/ appointments for developers including Garden Properties, Kiloran Properties and Serena Hotels.

Gary Barlow feels that one of the most satisfying aspects of the Regional office’s growth, has been the ability to attract and retain local Kenyan professional resources. The office now employs six professionally registered engineers, who enjoy the support and mentoring of sector specialist leaders from all Bosch Holdings operating companies.
